Our Paws and Purpose
Our mission at The Ruff Bed Collection is to provide the most durable, thoughtfully crafted pillow-top beds for your dogs, inspired by my rescue pups who found comfort in them. With the support of my best friend, Dr. Rachel Harshbarger, a compassionate veterinarian, these beds offer a safe, cozy place for your pets to rest. I’ve dedicated myself to learning the craft, taking sewing classes from local master seamstress Mary Anne, who has been sewing since she was eight, and inspired by my mother’s lifelong sewing. We believe in transparency, using quality materials you can trust, making our beds easy to clean and built to last. We can’t prevent every dog from chewing, but we can make it harder, and you’ll know exactly what’s inside. Our dogs are our world, and we’re passionate about solving this problem with love and dedication.

Hi, I’m Justin Smith, the founder of The Ruff Bed Collection. Helping others has always been at the core of my journey—from being a former special education teacher and big-brand marketer to founding Spin Junkie Pop-Up. While working in senior care, friends introduced me to CrossFit, which sparked my passion for wellness. After a shoulder injury led me to spinning, I returned to Michigan to launch Spin Junkie Pop-Up, where I get to be a cheerleader for others every day. My love for boxers began in my teens, and my rescue pups, Oxford and Stanford, are my daily inspiration. Seeing their anxiousness and their habit of tearing through beds (and even nibbling them!) inspired me to create something better. I’ve spent time learning from a master seamstress, perfecting the craft of designing durable pillow-top beds that stand the test of time. With both The Ruff Bed Collection and Spin Junkie Pop-Up, I’m proud to connect with this incredible Lansing community, building spaces where passion, wellness, and love for our four-legged friends come together.
